Al-Bayan: Foreword

This is a translation of the Qur'ān in the Urdu Language. It is not possible to translate the majesty and grandeur of this masterpiece of divine literature. I have, however, attempted to translate its meanings in the Urdu language keeping in view the coherence of the discourse. In this capacity, it is the first translation in history in which the coherence of the Qur'ān becomes evident from its very translation. No further explanation is required for this.

The annotations of this translation are mostly a summary of my mentor Imām Amīn Aḥsan Iṣlāḥī's exegesis Tadabbur-i Qur'ān. There are many places where I hold a different view. Serious readers can themselves determine these through comparative study It is not possible to express them at every place in such treatises.

I hope that alongside the coherence of the discourse, those having a literary taste will also be able to witness the grandeur and beauty of the Qur'ān's sublime style.
